The goal for this program is to give participants a comprehensive understanding of rational antimicrobial prescribing, or “antimicrobial stewardship,” which is essential in combating antimicrobial resistance. Future medical professionals need to be equipped to handle the challenges of prescribing antimicrobials in clinical practice and understand the importance and objectives of antimicrobial stewardship programs. It is important for educators to train medical students on the applicability of tools and communication strategies to optimize and improve the rational use of antimicrobials. While there are currently no established guidelines for incorporating antimicrobial stewardship into the medical school curriculum, several widely available tools can be utilized.
