The MOUD in County Detention Center ECHO Program is designed to train and support medical providers working in county detention to competently provide medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) to detainees with opioid use disorder. Currently, only a few of the 27 detention centers in New Mexico provide MOUD to detainees. The goals of the ECHO are to train clinicians and other health care staff, so they become expert at initiating and maintaining detainees on MOUD during their time in detention. The creation of this ECHO is guided by best practice guidelines from multiple organizations and by New Mexico regulatory changes that go into effect in December 2025.
