The FMA is committed to providing physicians with professional development and educational opportunities that will strengthen their ability to succeed and thrive in whatever professional setting they choose to practice within. Today’s healthcare professionals are facing unprecedented organizational, cultural, and professional changes and challenges. With this in mind, the FMA has collaborated with a variety of experts to develop a series of online courses intended to support not only the leadership skills of Florida physicians, but also their wellness goals. This particular module, which is the first in a series of four modules on Physician Wellness, is co-presented by two experts, an FMA physician/graduate of the Karl M. Altenburger, MD Physician Leadership Academy and a psychologist. The intent of the conversational dialogue is to equip learners with practical information and actionable steps that physicians can take to achieve a higher level of personal fulfillment and professional satisfaction using a psychology-based approach. This first module will highlight individual techniques that physicians can use to improve their wellness based on psychological principles Course Objectives: As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to: Discuss physician burnout and suicide, and its impact on the profession of medicine Compare helpful versus unhelpful strategies that are often employed by individuals and organizations to reduce burnout Use featured psychological concepts to improve their wellness and sense of well-being Embrace the power of emotional self-care and specific techniques like CBT, mindfulness, and relationship building that can positively affect wellness Recognize that 1:1 coaching/counseling support for wellness is not a negative or reportable activity
