Mary Putnam Jacobi and a Brief History of Women in Neurology – Alison Christy, MD, PhD As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will: Outline how medicine grew in the 19th and 20th centuries in the United States and how minorities were deliberately and systematically excluded from medical schools. Describe the challenges facing some of the earliest female neurologists, including Mary Putnam Jacobi and Sarah McNutt. Identify lessons from women s history to increase the presence of under-represented minorities in health care professions.
