This presentation will review death certificate completion and who is responsible. Forensic cases will be presented, each followed by a brief education about the topic. Learning Objectives: Describe how inaccuracies in the completion of death certificates impact mortality statistics, epidemiological tracking, and government research funding. Define and differentiate the (proximate) cause of death, the mechanism (immediate cause) of death, and the manner of death. Analyze the physical findings of gunshot wounds (emphasis on head wounds). Discriminate the various physical findings associated with blunt force and sharp force injuries.
