This project will address the urgent need for professional education and training to create a well-informed health care workforce knowledgeable about HIV. The National HIV Curriculum 3rd Edition will address this problem by enhancing the delivery of accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive information on all aspects of HIV/AIDS to health care providers who need this information. This approach will fulfill the two main outcomes: 1) Increase health professionals’ knowledge of the complex issues surrounding chronic HIV including the populations affected, CDC’s screening recommendations, serology, medical monitoring, care and treatment; and 2) Increase health professionals’ competence to conduct risk assessments, screen, identify, diagnose, counsel, stage, monitor and make appropriate referrals for those at risk for or are living with HIV/AIDS. This curriculum will also play an important role in the federal government’s initiative: Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America launched in 2019. The curriculum content directly supports three of the five key strategies: train HIV healthforce in key geographic areas; train providers on PrEP; and implement programs to increase adherence to PrEP.
