PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The identification of parathyroid glands in thyroid and parathyroid surgery can be challenging, possibly resulting in poor patient outcomes and increased morbidity and even mortality. Recently, the utilization of fluorescence imaging to aid in the recognition of these glands has been described. There are now a number of technologies available to surgeons that can be employed to assess for parathyroid autofluorescence. However, these tools are early in their evolution and the optimal techniques for their use are under active investigation. This panel will focus on these fluorescence technologies and discuss their application in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Panelists will describe and demonstrate through videos how they currently use fluorescence imaging in their practices.
