eCASE Learning: Transcatheter Tales

eCASE Learning: Transcatheter Tales

CASE, a global, open access online journal, welcomes case reports where cardiovascular ultrasound is used to diagnose or help solve a clinical problem. Examples include cases where cardiovascular ultrasound was used as a critical component of a multimodality approach to disease diagnosis or evaluation or where it was used to detect unusual or atypical disease manifestations. Case-based learning (CBL) is an established approach used across disciplines where learners apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, promoting higher levels of cognition. Case-based learning (CBL) uses stories about individuals facing decisions or dilemmas. The eCASE Learning based series consists of four “cases” from CASE that are topic specific relevant to what our current members/learners are requesting more education about.

Learning Objectives:

– Describe a potential technique for transcatheter closure of an atrial septal defect when there is a large multi-fenestrated septum primum aneurysm and a double atrial septum.
– Recognize the potential ability to use transcatheter edge-to-edge repair to reduce regurgitation in a patient with left atrioventricular valve cleft and prior surgical repair of a complete atrioventricular canal defect.
– Describe potential complications of continuous support with a left ventricular assist device.
– Describe how multimodality imaging may be used to identify the presence and severity of paravalvular leak in a patient after transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
