Obesity is a global health issue that contributes to significant morbidity and mortality rates. To address the comorbidities associated with obesity, weight loss surgery has emerged as an effective option when combined with dietary and lifestyle modifications. However, a thorough preoperative assessment is crucial to ensure appropriate candidate selection, identify contraindications, and manage existing comorbidities before surgical intervention. This assessment process requires a collaborative effort from an interprofessional team, aiming to enhance outcomes following weight loss surgery through comprehensive patient evaluation, personalized treatment planning, optimized perioperative management, multidisciplinary support, continuity of care, and patient education. In this context, this activity provides an overview of the preoperative assessment for weight loss surgery and emphasizes the integral role of the interprofessional team in preparing and evaluating patients who undergo these procedures.
