Solitary Fibrous Tumors

Solitary Fibrous Tumors

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) represent a rare type of mesenchymal neoplasm that can arise in various locations throughout the body, although most commonly occur in the thoracic cavity. Despite typically exhibiting a benign clinical course, a subset of SFTs may demonstrate malignant behavior, leading to local recurrence and distant metastasis. Diagnosis often requires a multidisciplinary approach involving clinical, histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular assessments to differentiate SFTs from other soft tissue tumors. Treatment typically involves surgical resection, although adjuvant therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy may be considered in cases of unresectable or metastatic disease. Long-term follow-up is essential due to the potential for late recurrences and metastases, underscoring the importance of continued surveillance in managing patients with SFTs.Participating in this course offers clinicians a comprehensive understanding of SFTs, including their epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnostic modalities, and treatment strategies. Participants can expect to gain insight into the latest advancements in SFT management, including emerging therapeutic approaches and prognostic factors. Additionally, they enhance their diagnostic skills by interpreting imaging studies, histopathological specimens, and molecular analyses, ultimately improving their ability to provide optimal care for patients with SFTs. Furthermore, the course highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing SFTs, fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life.
