Chronic pain affects over one-quarter of the United States population and is a prevalent complaint seen in outpatient medical clinics. The condition encompasses a wide range of persistent discomfort lasting beyond 3 to 6 months and often originates from various sources, including injury, disease, or unknown causes. Chronic pain can significantly impair an individual’s quality of life, leading to physical limitations, emotional distress, and social isolation. Moreover, the failure to diagnose and effectively manage chronic pain can contribute to opioid use disorders and increase morbidity and mortality rates among affected individuals. Therefore, healthcare professionals must understand chronic pain and implement appropriate treatment strategies. This activity provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of chronic pain, including its evaluation and treatment modalities. Participants explore the multifaceted nature of chronic pain, including the underlying mechanisms, assessment tools, and evidence-based interventions. The course also emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach to chronic pain management, highlighting the role of the healthcare team in providing holistic care to patients. By enhancing knowledge and skills in chronic pain management, participants are better equipped to address the complex needs of patients in pain and improve outcomes in clinical practice.
