Eczema herpeticum is a severe cutaneous infection caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), primarily affecting individuals with atopic dermatitis. Characterized by the sudden appearance of monomorphic vesicles and erosions with hemorrhagic crusts over eczematous areas, this condition often manifests alongside systemic symptoms such as fever, lymphadenopathy, and malaise. It predominantly results from HSV-1 superinfection in the setting of compromised skin barriers seen in atopic dermatitis, though reactivation of HSV can also contribute. Other dermatological conditions impairing skin integrity, including Darier disease, immunobullous diseases, and burns, can similarly predispose individuals to this disseminated HSV infection, termed Kaposi varicelliform eruption (KVE).Participation in educational courses on eczema herpeticum equips healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of its epidemiology, genetic underpinnings, clinical manifestations, and optimal management strategies. By acquiring knowledge through such training, participants enhance their ability to deliver timely and effective care to patients suffering from this complex and prevalent condition. Moreover, the course underscores the critical role of interprofessional collaboration in optimizing patient outcomes. Collaborative efforts involving dermatologists, infectious disease specialists, pediatricians, and nurses facilitate holistic management approaches that integrate dermatologic expertise with infectious disease management, immunological support, and psychological care. This teamwork ensures that patients receive multidisciplinary care tailored to their specific needs, ultimately improving treatment outcomes and minimizing complications associated with eczema herpeticum.
