Using Motivational Interviewing in Your DPP to Support Behavior Change and Retention

Using Motivational Interviewing in Your DPP to Support Behavior Change and Retention

This webinar gives a brief overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts in the contexts of addressing diabetes prevention behaviors and developing supportive group dynamics in DPP classes. The overall objective is to inform/refresh National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coaches in the person-centered skills of MI to help facilitate not only effective individual and group conversations about goal setting and behavior change, but also to foster a cohesive group dynamic. This process is a success factor in Diabetes Prevention Program participant retention; it is hoped that participants will come away ready to discuss successful MI-based communication and retention strategies to engage with DPP class participants.
