Human Trafficking: A Public Health Crisis

Human Trafficking: A Public Health Crisis

Human trafficking is a major public health problem, both domestically and internationally. Healthcare providers are often the only professionals to interact with trafficking victims who are still in captivity. Recent studies have demonstrated that up to 50% of trafficking victims in the United States were seen by healthcare professionals while in captivity and were not identified. This course will help guide healthcare professionals to identify human trafficking victims when they present in the clinical setting. Providers will learn how to appropriately assess victims and clearly know when and how to report cases to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

This course meets continuing education requirements for the Florida Boards of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Podiatry and Dentistry Florida Councils of Physician Assistants and Dietetics and Nutrition. This activity has also been approved for Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy, in accordance with Florida’s Human Trafficking Bill, Section 456.0641, Florida Statutes. For more information on Florida’s Human Trafficking Bill and to download printable posters, go to the Department of Health Human Trafficking website.
