Training the Next Generation of Wisconsin Nursing Home Infection Preventionists: Course 14: Antibiotic Stewardship

In this course, participants will review why antibiotic use in nursing homes matters and what antibiotic stewardship is. We will also review and discuss the key activities that need to be performed in order to establish a functional Antibiotic Stewardship Program that meets existing Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations. Finally, we will discuss more advanced stewardship practices that nursing homes with more established Antibiotic Stewardship Programs should consider implementing as well as resources that facilities can use to help improve the quality of antibiotic prescribing.
