Comparative Echocardiography: Human and Nonhuman Primates (OnDemand)

Echocardiographic methods share several similarities and differences when applied to human and nonhuman primates. In this presentation, panelists will share their expertise and experience with development of a novel protocol for performing complete echocardiograms, including strain imaging, on unsedated orangutans; the history and development of the Great Ape Heart Project; and comparative echocardiography of anesthetized nonhuman primates. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1) Able to name methods used for performing a complete echocardiogram on a non-human primate. 2) Able to describe challenges and methods of overcoming them, when performing an echocardiogram on a non-human primate.
