The Basic Anticoagulation Course reviews why anticoagulants are considered high-alert
medications and what best practices can be implemented including an anticoagulation
stewardship program to help minimize potential errors and improve patient safety with
anticoagulants. Typical conditions treated with anticoagulants including potential adverse events
and monitoring, and a brief explanation of the risks and benefits are reviewed. For a more in-
depth review of anticoagulants especially for prescribers and clinical staff involved in direct care
of patients receiving anticoagulant therapy, please refer to the Advanced Anticoagulation
Provider Course which is currently being updated with anticipated release date of late 2023. The
Basic and Advanced Anticoagulation knowledge-based online courses will focus on the
importance of learning about anticoagulation therapy and its management as a health care
professional and interprofessional health care teams.
