Accessibility for Health Science Educators Microcredential

Accessibility for Health Science Educators Microcredential

In 2015-2016, it was reported that 19% of undergraduate students and 12% of graduate students have
reported having a disability (National Center for Educational Statistics). In the United States, 26% of the
population has a disability, and the number is highest in the southern part of the country (Centers for
Disease Control). As schools are becoming more inclusive, the number of students with disabilities is
likely to climb. This microcredential course would provide training on the law, best practices for accessibility, the disability accommodation approval process, health science-specific accommodations, and how to communicate respectfully about disability. Learners who complete the course will have a deeper understanding of how the law informs practices and procedures and will also have a better understanding of how to meet the needs of diverse learners.
