More than 6 million people in the U.S. over the age of 20 had heart failure (HF) between 2013 and 2016 (Virani et al., 2020). HF has a major economic impact in the U.S. In 2012, the total cost was $30.7 billion, including medication costs, time spent in hospitals, and missed workdays (CDC, 2020). HF costs are projected to double to more than $69.7 billion by 2030 (Benjamin et al., 2017). Due to the complexity and progression of HF, healthcare providers (HCPs) should be aware of the appropriate long-term management goals of HF that may improve disease progression, including morbidity and mortality.
The goal of this course is to ensure that pharmacists, physicians, and nursing professionals in acute care can benefit from a comprehensive review and update of guideline-directed medical care for patients with heart failure.
