The goal of this program is to improve management of osteoporosis and provision of breastfeeding support in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify patients at risk for osteoporosis.
2. Recommend an appropriate drug for treatment of osteoporosis.
3. Initiate a drug holiday in a patient being treated with a bisphosphonate for osteoporosis.
4. Implement NICU-specific clinical practice guidelines and therapies to improve neonatal health outcomes.
5. Adopt a strategic approach to manage the complex relationship between the mother and the NICU staff to facilitate breastfeeding success.
