As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will: Describe trends in cost for transplantation compared with those for US healthcare more broadly. Discuss the interrelation of policy decisions from CMS and the OPTN and reimbursement to transplant centers and physicians. Explain the implications of increased cost without commensurate increases in reimbursement. Contrast options in responding to competing priorities related to policy goals around transplantation.
