The goal of this program is to improve pharmaceutical management of osteoporosis and improve management of osteoporosis by addressing racial differences and disparities in care. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Weigh the risks and benefits of common bisphosphonates on fracture risk and bone density. 2. Estimate the risk for osteonecrosis of the jaw and atypical femur fracture in patients taking bisphosphonates for osteoporosis. 3. Cite potential pitfalls of the current definitions and clinical criteria for osteoporosis. 4. Compare risk for osteoporosis among different racial and ethnic groups. 5. Identify factors that may contribute to disparities in osteoporosis management and fracture outcomes among different racial and ethnic groups.
