The Salem VA Medical Center is a 298-bed medical center with tertiary care in psychiatry, as well as a comprehensive array of specialties including medicine, surgery, geriatrics, and women’s health. Primary Care Teams and a variety of specialty clinics provide continuity of care for outpatients. Clinical pharmacy specialists have a unique role within VA s patient-centered care model due to their extensive experience and scope of practice in managing complex medication regimens to treat a variety of different disease states. The purpose of this knowledge based live-virtual series is to present practical clinical scenarios, provide updates on new and innovative developments in research, therapeutics, and to address relevant pharmacy related issues that our current providers face. Presentations are in-depth and reflect the presenter s ability to integrate opposing views and apparently conflicting information, and to develop and clearly articulate his/her own conclusion. The objective of this formal presentation is for the residents/preceptor to provide a one-hour in-depth presentation on a topic of interest, which should include but not be limited to area of controversy, evidence-based practice, thorough literature review of the topic, guideline recommendations, and resident s conclusion and future considerations on the topic. At the completion of this knowledge-based Pharmacotherapy Conference series, the audience will gain therapeutic knowledge and insight on the topics and incorporate the literature/data presented into daily clinical practice as appropriate. A secondary objective of this conference series is to provide a regularly scheduled forum for the sharing of ideas and information relating to clinical practice, education, research, and other program- or profession-related issues.
