Sleep and Neurodegenerative Disorders

Sleep and Neurodegenerative Disorders

Sleep disorders are common yet often overlooked complications of neurodegenerative conditions. These disturbances significantly contribute to morbidity and can adversely affect patients’ overall prognosis and quality of life. Effective screening during regular medical appointments requires asking about symptoms and implementing appropriate interventions. Sometimes, managing these sleep disorders involves adjusting the treatment plan for the primary condition, highlighting the interconnection between these 2 disease groups. This educational activity focuses on sleep disorders in Parkinson and Alzheimer diseases. Participants gain enhanced skills in diagnosing sleep disorders and understanding their relationship with neurodegenerative diseases. The activity also provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to manage sleep disturbances in affected patients, improving patient outcomes and quality of life. This activity also highlights the role of the interprofessional team in addressing both sleep and neurodegenerative aspects of patient care.
