Some states have a mature minor law that allows children between the ages of 13-18 to make their own medical decisions. Kentucky does not have a mature minor law and requires an adolescent to be 18 years old in order to make medical decisions for themselves. This can lead to confusion about if and how to incorporate adolescents in medical decision making.
