Sweetening the Deal: a new organ + diabetes too (DM in Transplant) – Sam Pabich, MD, MPH As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will: Differentiate transplant-associated Hyperglycemia from Post-Transplant Diabetes Mellitus (PTDM) and formulate treatment goals for each condition. Identify the intervenable and non-intervenable risk factors for PTDM and synthesize strategies for transplant medicine to reduce these risks. Formulate pathway for utilization of diabetes medications in a pre-transplant population (indications, contraindications, patient information, monitoring). Discuss the available evidence on safety/efficacy of newer diabetes medications for use in the transplant population, and weigh risks/benefits of utilization of these medications in the absence of large clinical trials.
