As frontline workers and educators who serve birthing families, we often emphasize the importance of skin to skin contact especially in the first hour after birth; however, standard teaching and demonstration approaches may not serve the diversity of clients who seek our care, nor the contexts they face within various care settings. In fact, skin to skin is not a concept that is universally applicable to all families and situations. To avoid harm and increase equity in our teaching and demonstration approaches, this webinar will invite participants to think critically about different audiences, and then offer strategies for how early parenting and lactation techniques can be equitably offered.
