Multidisciplinary Team Series: Trauma-informed Approach

Multidisciplinary Team Series: Trauma-informed Approach

By incorporating a trauma-informed approach to child abuse investigations, child abuse professionals will be able to better engage families. We encourage investigators to take a supportive approach when responding to allegations of abuse. By identifying family dynamics and any history of abuse or adversities on the front end of the investigation, the MDT will be better positioned to work with the family to address these concerns. This holistic approach and intentional engagement should result in increased cooperation throughout the investigative process, as well as a willingness to participate in therapeutic interventions, and potential court proceedings. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to support parents and caregivers so that they can better support their child.
