According to the American Heart Association, from 2017 to 2020, 63.1 million U.S. adults, or 25.5%, had high LDL cholesterol levels (130 mg/dL or higher). Because high cholesterol is prevalent, it’s crucial for providers to know the optimal cholesterol targets for patients with coronary artery disease to prevent illness and death.
