Children and teens with obesity experience a variety of symptoms including headaches, irregular menses, more severe degrees of asthma, and social isolation. They are also at risk for long-term chronic illnesses including diabetes, hypertension and liver disease. With effective treatment, we can prevent or reverse many of these conditions. Evidence-based strategies for assessment of children with obesity, initial management, and referral have been described and are currently recommended.
