Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being developed for clinical care, including clinical decision support (CDS), and the US Food and Drug Administration has approved over 500 AI algorithms for clinical use. The growing need for AI to support clinical activities based on several specific clinical challenges. An illustrative framework will be provided for evaluating AI that is like the current framework used to evaluate a new biologic (e.g., a drug or a vaccine) before deployment. Finally, we will briefly describe some ongoing AI projects.
