The AAP interim Guidance on Supporting the Emotional and Behavioral Health Needs of Children, Adolescents and Families During the COVID-19 Pandemic highlighted the emotional and behavioral health challenges of children. While there was a growing concern before the COVID-19 pandemic, the public health emergency has acutely exacerbated these challenges. The pandemic underscored the need to continue to integrate emotional and behavioral health as part of standard care. Pediatricians and other pediatric health care providers lack the knowledge, skills and self-efficacy to utilize effective strategies to address the complex needs of pediatric patients with anxiety and depression. This CME activity ECHO project is part of a partnership with the National Training and Technical Assistance Center for Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (NTTAC). The AAP will develop and implement an ECHO program focused on supporting pediatric primary care providers providing behavioral and mental health care to pediatric patients. The emphasis will be placed on primary care providers to develop and implement effective strategies to address anxiety and depression. In addition to community-based organizations and pediatric healthcare clinicians, the proposed capacity-building assistance will benefit hospital systems, primary care physicians, US hospitals, and health systems. A QI Track will be offered as an option for participants.
