Nearly one in three children is overweight or has obesity, placing them at lifelong risk for psychological and health challenges that negatively impact their quality of life. For children living in under-resourced areas, this is of even more significant concern as they have a limited number of pediatric subspecialties, geographic barriers, economic challenges, and cultural barriers to care. Pediatricians and other pediatric health care providers in these areas need to build the knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy to utilize effective strategies needed to address the complex needs of pediatric patients suffering from obesity in their communities. The use of Project ECHO to train primary care providers to address this issue that would need to be referred out to a specialist would help in addressing this gap in care in these communities.
