The goal of this program is to improve the evaluation, interpreta tion, and management of abnormal blood counts and diagnosis and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Use the methylmalonic acid test to identify vitamin B12 deficiency. 2. List risk factors for neutropenia. 3. Explain the effect of increased platelet counts in essential thrombocytosis. 4. Optimize use of prednisone in patients at risk for corticosteroid induced fractures. 5. Evaluate evidence on osteoporotic fractures following gluco corticoid therapy.
