Gynecologists should be familiar with how to use hormonal medications to achieve menstrual suppression in reproductive-aged patients. The goal should be a reduction in the amount and total days of menstrual flow. Although patients may desire complete amenorrhea, this can be difficult to accomplish. Patients should be counseled about realistic expectations and bleeding patterns. Menstrual suppression can be extremely beneficial in a wide variety of patient populations, including (but not limited to) patients with cognitive and physical disabilities, patients seeking gender affirming therapy, athletes, patients with challenges affecting hygiene and privacy
