This article provides continuing education for healthcare professionals involved in home infusion therapy, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, and dietitians, focusing on early sepsis recognition and response. Sepsis is described as a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated response to infection. The program highlights the importance of early detection, monitoring, and intervention in the home infusion setting, where providers can play a crucial role. The “TIME” acronym (Temperature, Infection, Mental decline, Extremely ill) and the modified National Early Warning Score (mNEWS) are presented as tools to aid in identifying sepsis. The program also discusses using telehealth and wearable devices to improve monitoring. Typical home infusion-related infections, particularly central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), are addressed, along with prevention strategies. The importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and standardized communication methods like SBAR is also emphasized to improve patient outcomes. Ultimately, the program aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to minimize sepsis mortality in home infusion therapy.
