The goal of this program is to improve assessment and management of breathing emergencies in patients with a permanent tracheostomy. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify challenges involved in treatment of patients with tracheostomies or laryngectomies in an emergency setting.
2. Apply appropriate suctioning techniques and rescue breathing during an emergency based on the type of tracheostomy.
