Balanitis circumscripta plasmacellularis, also called Zoon balanitis or plasma cell balanitis, is a chronic, idiopathic, reactive balanoposthitis that occurs in uncircumcised men and is thought to be secondary to a dysfunctional foreskin. The condition typically presents on the prepuce, glans penis, or both, with symmetrical, well-marginated, erythematous, shiny plaques with pinpoint red marks called “cayenne pepper spots.” This benign condition may appear similar to erythroplasia of Queyrat, which is squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the glans penis. Balanitis circumscripta plasmacellularis is rarely associated with squamous cell carcinoma. This activity describes the interprofessional team approach in the evaluation and management of balanitis circumscripta plasmacellularis to improve care delivery for affected patients.
