This course consists of nine lessons that will examine the Chains of Survival (adult and pediatric) and how to recognize emergencies such as stroke or heart attack. In this course, you will learn how to recognize a respiratory arrest and, in response, how to perform rescue breathing. You will also learn how to recognize a cardiac arrest, perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to use an automated external defibrillator (or A-E-D). We will discuss team dynamics when providing emergency assistance and interventions for choking. Situations that require Basic Life Support (BLS) modifications, such as an opioid overdose and performing CPR on pregnant or obese individuals, will also be reviewed. The course concludes with a 40-question multiple-choice posttest.
