The goal of this program is to improve the accessibility of hospice care for patients with chronic kidney disease and the management of pulmonary and cardiac issues commonly encountered in the emergency department. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify patients in hospice with chronic kidney disease who are eligible for concurrent care.
2. Use the concurrent care paradigm to increase end of life satisfaction among family members of patients receiving hospice care.
3. Differentiate the palliative approach to dialysis care from the disease-focused approach.
4. Select antibiotics that are safe for patients with left ventricu-lar assist devices who are receiving anticoagulation therapy.
5. Use assessment tools to grade the severity of acute pulmo-nary embolism.
