Brown-Séquard syndrome results from hemisection of the spinal cord. Manifestations of this neurologic syndrome include weakness or paralysis, proprioceptive deficits on the side of the body ipsilateral to the lesion, and loss of pain and temperature sensation on the contralateral side. As an incomplete spinal cord syndrome, the clinical presentation of Brown-Séquard syndrome varies in severity, with specific deficits dependent on the location and mechanism of the injury. The clinical presentation may vary, ranging from mild-to-severe neurologic deficits. This activity reviews the evaluation, treatment, and prognosis of Brown-Séquard syndrome. The role of the interprofessional team in facilitating informed decision-making and improving patient care is emphasized.
