Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) is a distinctive form of scarring alopecia characterized by patches of permanent hair loss that manifest on the vertex or crown of the scalp, progressively spreading outward in a centrifugal pattern. Visible signs of inflammation mark this condition and are predominantly observed in women of African descent, displaying a familial predisposition. Despite the prevalence, treatment options for CCCA remain limited, with current modalities encompassing the use of topical and systemic corticosteroids, as well as oral tetracyclines. However, responses to these interventions are typically modest. The prognosis of CCCA varies, contingent upon factors such as the duration and nature of the disease, emphasizing the need for further research to enhance the management of this challenging alopecia. This course explores the etiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation of CCCA, emphasizing the role of the interprofessional team in managing the condition. Participants gain insights into interdisciplinary collaboration among dermatologists, trichologists, and primary care physicians, enhancing their competence in diagnosing and managing CCCA. Through shared knowledge and coordinated efforts, clinicians optimize patient care and improve treatment outcomes for individuals affected by CCCA.
