Many nurses struggle to understand diabetes complications, disease course, and treatment options. This module will describe basic pathophysiology of diabetes, complications that arise with diabetes, diabetes self-management skills, standards of care, and treatment options. As a result of this activity, learners should be able to describe the anatomy and physiology of diabetes, identify risk factors for development of diabetes, describe treatment options including both medical and nursing interventions, describe methods to promote optimal health with diabetes, identify standards of care and quality metrics measured for patients with diabetes.
