1. Master the ABC approach to caring for the poisoned patient. 2. Discriminate between toxicologic syndrome presentations. 3. Treat acetaminophen / paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity with N-acetylcysteine. 4. Treat severe carbon monoxide toxicity with hyperbaric oxygen. 5. Determine if glucagon, sodium bicarbonate, and / or digoxin-specific antibodies are indicated in cardiotoxicity. 6. Treat toxic alcohol poisoning with fomepizole. 7. Treat lithium toxicity with hemodialysis. 8. Recognize signs and symptoms of pulmonary aspiration in hydrocarbon toxicity. 9. Include amatoxin uptake inhibitors and antioxidant therapy in the treatment of amatoxin-induced hepatotoxicity. 10. Treat drug-induced methemoglobinemia with methylene blue.
