In 2021, the US Preventive Services Task Force and the American College of Gastroenterology issued updated recommendations for colorectal cancer screening of eligible adults. Colonoscopy has been considered by many to be the gold standard for screening, but there are significant barriers. Many eligible individuals have never been screened for a variety of reasons. Physicians and nurses will do well to become conversant with the updated guidelines to better to advise their patients about colorectal cancer screening.
