Relationships are at the core of complex care. Complex care team members appreciate both the autonomy of the individual with complex health and social needs (including their right to determine their goals and care plan), and the importance of mutual, respectful, therapeutic relationships between individual and care team to support the individual in achieving those goals. The team members support the individual’s capacity and self-direction through a secure, genuine, and consistent relationship. Authentic healing relationships shift the power from the practitioner to the patient, in order to achieve the patient’s goals in a sustainable way. Complex care practitioners are able to sustain these deep relationships by setting and maintaining healthy boundaries and caring for themselves. This course will teach learners how to build authentic healing relationships in a healthy, sustainable, and patient-centered way.
