Motivational interviewing is a person-centered approach to supporting people in resolving ambivalence and making a behavior change that aligns with their goals of health and well-being. This approach is frequently used in complex care because the spirit, skills, and processes of motivational interviewing align with the orientation, approaches, and techniques in complex care. Motivational interviewing provides a structured way of having conversations that elicits and strengthens a person’s own intrinsic motivation to change. This course will teach learners how to embrace the spirit of motivational interviewing and how to implement the skills and processes of it in the context of complex care.
