Congenital Femoral Deficiency

Congenital Femoral Deficiency

Congenital femoral deficiency (CFD) is a complex condition encompassing a spectrum of femoral anatomical disorders, ranging from congenital short femur to severe proximal focal femoral deficiencies. Patients with CFD typically experience compromised hip joint stability and mobility, accompanied by joint malorientation and soft tissue contractures. The affected limb’s growth is hindered, with the inhibition rate varying based on the underlying condition’s severity. Notably, CFD is often associated with a myriad of skeletal abnormalities, with fibular hemimelia being the most common. Associated conditions include caudal regression syndrome, caudal dysplasia, cruciate ligament deficiency, and lumbosacral spine deformities. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance learner’s competence in evaluating and managing CFD. Participating clinicians gain comprehensive insights into CFD’s clinical presentations, characterized by coxa vara proximally and femoral valgus distally. A deeper understanding of the latest research findings and clinical approaches enables participants to collaborate effectively within an interprofessional team, providing optimal care for affected patients.
