COPD Care Academy Week 1

COPD Care Academy Week 1

Despite the high number of people in the U.S. that have been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the age-adjusted prevalence has declined since 1999, possibly due to overall population decrease in smoking rates. Furthermore, there has been an increase in the understanding of the disease and effective management methods. COPD is now recognized as a significant public health problem, and a greater amount of research is being conducted on the underlying mechanisms and effectiveness of various treatment methods.
This knowledge-based, virtual training will outline key steps and tasks that will introduce healthcare teams to our COPD CARE Infrastructure. Pharmacologic therapy is improving with better understanding of the disease process and novel drugs. The increasing amount of COPD research leading to further understanding of the disease and effective management strategies allows patients and providers alike to be optimistic that they can manage COPD effectively to provide patients with an improved Quality of Life.
