The goal of this program is to improve management of cholesterol for patients at increased risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Summarize the strengths and limitations of commonly used clinical practice guidelines on the use of statins.
2. Identify patient populations in which commonly used risk calculators for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease poorly estimate actual risk.
3. Incorporate risk enhancing factors and patient discussion into the decision-making process for use of statins.
